SCHOOL PHOTOS

Discovery School Photo Day

Photo day will be Tuesday and Wednesday the 10th and 11th of November at the Discovery School. We will use the photos in the yearbook, and the DPTO will be offering photo packages to parents as a fundraiser.
The photos will be taken with professional equipment, be very high quality and will be printed on proper photo paper.

Photo Schedule
Nursery to Grade 5 will have their photos taken on the Tuesday and Grade 6 to 12 on the Wednesday.

Picture packages
In order to keep the process as straightforward as possible, we will be offering one picture package for 150 lempira that will be printed on an 8X10 sheet that has one 5X7, two 2.5 X 3.5 and four 2 X 2.5 photos of your child and will include a separate 5X7 photo of your child’s class. Additional picture package sheets and single 8X10 photos can be ordered for an additional 75 lempira.

If you are ordering a photo package please send your child with their form and payment on Monday the 2nd All packages will be pre-paid so please send the appropriate amount of cash with your child on their photo day.

Dia de Fotografias en Discovery Schoool


El próximo martes y miércoles 10 y 11 de noviembre serán Días de Fotografías en Discovery School. Utilizaremos estas fotografías para nuestro anuario escolar, y el DPTO esta poniendo a la venta paquetes de fotos como una actividad de recaudación de fondo.

Estas fotos se tomarán con equipo de fotografía profesional, serán de excelente calidad e impresas en papel de fotografía.


Horario para las Fotografías
Se tomarán las fotos a los alumnos de Pre-escolar y Primaria (Nursery hasta Quinto grado) el día martes 3 de noviembre. Los alumnos de Sexto a Duodécimo grado se tomarán sus fotos el día miércoles 4 de noviembre.


Paquetes de Fotografías Disponibles
Para facilitar este proceso, estamos ofreciendo un paquete de fotos por L.150.00, el cual será impreso en una hoja de 8X10 que contiene una foto su hijo(a) de 5X7, dos fotografías de 2.5 X 3.5 y cuatro fotografías de 2 X 2.5, así como una foto adicional de 5X7 de su hijo(a) con su clase. Paquetes adicionales, o fotos adicionales sencillas de 8X10 pueden ser ordenados a un precio de L.75.00.

Si usted va a encargar un paquete de fotos, por favor mande el siguiente formulario acompañado de su respectivo pago el día lunes 9 de noviembre. Todos los paquetes deben ser pagados con anticipación, de manera que por favor envíe el pago con su hijo(a) el día de la toma de fotos.

OPEN MEETING FOR DPTO THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH AT 6:30 PM

The DPTO is meeting next week to vote in new officers for the 2009-2010 school year. A list of officer duties can be found on the lower left hand side of the DPTO blog.

We are also looking for volunteers to spearhead some of the school events (running the committees) for the upcoming year. At the present, we have a few chairs of events and will need a few more to lead and organize activities such as Teacher Appreciation Week, the Community Garage Sale and other very popular events. And of course we will need a diverse group of volunteers from the community to lend a hand in making the events a grand success for this coming year.

We are asking people to bring a dish, snack or drink. It would be a great way to meet other parents in the school, brainstorm fundraising and community building activities and strengthen the sense of spirit and camaraderie in our school.
Additionally, we are asking that you take some time to visit the blog listed about.

We are asking for suggestions for future DPTO events and activities. Please add your thoughts to the line below in the blog that says “Comments” before September 9th. Comments can be in Spanish or English.

REUNION ABIERTA DEL DPTO PARA EL JUEVES 10 DE SEPTIEMBRE A LAS 6:30 PM
El DPTO se reunirá la próxima semana para elegir a su nueva directiva para el año lectivo 2009-2010. La lista de las responsabilidades de cada puesto en la directiva puede encontrarse en el blog del DPTO (www.dptoblog.blogspot.com).

También estamos buscando voluntarios para liderar ciertos eventos escolares para este año escolar (establecer estos comités). Actualmente contamos con algunos voluntarios para ciertos eventos, pero aun necesitamos mas voluntarios para organizar eventos como la Semana de Apreciación del Maestro, la Venta de Garaje, así como otros eventos que son muy populares en nuestra comunidad escolar. Y, por supuesto, necesitamos un grupo diverso de padres de familia para hacer de estos eventos un éxito este año escolar.

Para esta próxima reunión, estamos pidiendo a los padres traer algún bocadillo o bebida para compartir. Esta reunión nos da la oportunidad de conocer otros padres, compartir ideas de actividades para recaudar fondos y de actividades para estrechar lazos entre nuestra comunidad escolar, y fomentar así un sentimiento de camaradería y espíritu escolar.

Estamos pidiendo para sus sugerencias de actividades para este año escolar. Por favor escriba sus ideas (en ingles o español) en la sección titulada “Comments” (bajo en este blog) antes del 9 de septiembre.

Fee Payment Changes Approved by Board

Following the General Assembly, the Board of Directors voted to make two changes to the payment process, which we hope will help our parents in this current economic climate.

1.) RESERVATION FEE: For any parents who have not yet paid the reservation fee, we will accept $500 per family as in the past, rather than $500 per student. At the time of signing the Payment Agreement, the family can instruct us how they want that $500 applied.

2.) PAYMENT DUE DATE: Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, payments will be due on the 20th day of the month rather than the 10th day of the month as they have been this year. We hope this will alleviate the burden on our families who do not receive their income early in the month, while still giving our Finance Office enough time to pay the school’s bills before the end of the month.

a Honduran Fairy-Tale Tragedy

Entrance is Free!!!!

Teatro Renacimiento is a wonderful theatre located in the Plaza Millenium. The drama students are presenting the Flower of Olivia, an adaptation of a Honduran (Garifuna) fable, which also has international roots.

The performance will last about 50 minutes.
